FAQs
What level of English do I need to benefit from GrammarLocker™?
GrammarLocker™ is for people of any age who have studied to Grade 6 level or above to refresh and improve your English.
What do the modules cover?
A wide range of areas are covered – for example, sentence structure, verbs, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs and prepositions. The syllabus corresponds to the Level B2 internationally-recognised standard, defined as equivalent to a “independent users of the language, who can understand the main ideas of complex texts and are comfortable in an English-speaking environment”.
How many exercises and tests are there? How are they organised?
There are over 10,000 exercises with more added all the time. Your GrammarLocker™ is arranged into seven modules, each covering a wide range of essential topics – 46 in total, each with comprehensive written lessons. You do exercises as you go through the lessons – and in the Skills Practice section at any time – and test yourself every day (Daily Drill), every week (Weekly Workout) and at the end of each topic (Topic Test). GrammarLocker is designed around the ‘spaced repetition method’, a scientifically proven way of learning that involves reviewing information at close intervals, improves your memory, and makes it less likely you’ll forget things. Studies show it can significantly improve learning and reduce the time spent studying.
I only need to refresh certain grammar points: will I have to progress through all the modules?
No, you can select the individual module and topic to suit your needs and gaps. It’s always good to practise though, so we’d recommend you brush up on each topic!
What if I don’t understand where I have gone wrong in the tests?
If you make a mistake in any exercise or test, you’ll always have a clear explanation of where you went wrong. You can then refresh your understanding by going back over the topic and completing the relevant exercises in the Skills Practice section which will narrow down the skills you need to focus on. These are listed in your Skills Practice Section as your Trouble Spots, which you eliminate by successfully completing the relevant exercises!
How often should I use My GrammarLocker™?
Regular practice is key. We’d always recommend you do at least 20 minutes each day and complete the Daily Drill and Weekly Workout as well as the Topic Tests for the best results. GrammarLocker is designed around the ‘spaced repetition method’, a scientifically proven way of learning that involves reviewing information at close intervals, improves your memory, and makes it less likely you’ll forget things. Studies show it can significantly improve learning and reduce the time spent studying.
How will I know if I am making progress?
Your test scores and module progress are tracked in your personal dashboard where your achievements are also recognised with awards!

How does the free trial work?
The free trial gives you free access to the first two topics of Module 1 as well as the associated Daily Drills for 72 hours. No payment details are required for the free trial.
How do I earn points?
You will see the best results by working in your GrammarLocker every day and keeping up the momentum as you progress through the modules, clocking up plenty of practice and revising regularly. So you are rewarded with points for consistency as well as performance – and the number of points you achieve set your status as Gold, Silver or Bronze, shown in your profile.
You can earn points for scoring well in your topic exercises and tests; completing your modules in a timely way; regularly revising past topics and doing your daily drills every day and your weekly workouts every week. And, if you do all of those things, you get bonus points on top!
By contrast, if your average Topic Test score dips, your points – and status – can go down!
How do I reach Bronze, Silver or Gold performer?
Your gold, silver and bronze status is decided by your total number of points and automatically updated when you achieve the required number of points. Your status will go up as your points increase, but be careful! If your average Topic Test score goes down, your points – and status – will too!
What is the spaced repetition method?
The questions in your Daily Drill, Weekly Workout and Topic Tests are selected based on the spaced repetition method.
The spaced repetition method is a scientifically proven way of learning that involves reviewing information at closer intervals. This boosts your memory and so makes you far more likely to remember what you’ve learnt. Studies show it can significantly improve learning and reduce the time spent studying, training your brain to find the information when you need it.
